Ken Christensen was not just my Sheriff — he was my mentor and a major reason I was promoted to Lieutenant. He led from the front and never forgot the importance of supporting his people. When deputies were dealing with difficult or traumatic calls, Ken was the Sheriff who showed up. That presence mattered, and it built trust, morale, and confidence within the ranks.
Ken had a lasting influence on the growth and development of countless deputies. His leadership, standards, and expectations are still visible in the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office today. He pushed everyone to be the best version of themselves and held us accountable to that standard.
Under his leadership, the Sheriff’s Office aggressively fought to clean our county of drugs. He empowered detectives to go after the worst of the worst, giving them the freedom and backing they needed to do the job right. As a result, San Juan County became a leader in arrests of child pornographers — work that protected victims and made our community safer.
Ken Christensen is a proven leader who supports his people, demands excellence, and puts public safety first. San Juan County needs that leadership.

As a retired Captain and someone who continues to serve in a senior leadership role within law enforcement, I am proud to offer my strong support for Ken Christesen for Sheriff of San Juan County.
I served 19 years under Ken’s leadership and was mentored by him across nearly every function of modern law enforcement, patrol, investigations, street crimes, professional standards, and undercover narcotics. I worked for several capable sheriffs during my career, but none matched Ken’s level of engagement, progressiveness, or moral courage. Ken never asked us to do anything he wouldn't do himself.
Ken led from the front. He built teams of proven, results-oriented professionals and empowered them to deliver exceptional service while holding them accountable for outcomes. He was approachable and available when it mattered most, especially when it was inconvenient, and understood that leadership requires presence, not insulation.
He was never afraid to do hard things. Ken chose integrity when silence would've been easier. Ken confronted corruption within law enforcement and politics alike, choosing integrity over comfort and responsibility over personal risk. He fought for our state at the Capitol when others would not, restoring the Sheriff’s Association's relevance and legislative influence and ensuring law enforcement had a meaningful voice in decision making.
Ken believed public safety worked best in partnership with the community. He established volunteer and community programs that strengthened trust and prevented the office from becoming inward-looking or disconnected. Through crisis and controversy, he was calm in the storm, willing to listen, steady under pressure, serious about the mission but humble enough not to take himself too seriously.
Most of all, Ken led with his heart. He empowered people to work, demanded accountability for results, and never allowed fear or personal risk to interfere with doing the right thing.
When the job was hard, Ken didn't flinch. He has never chased titles; he carries responsibility. Leadership is not loud, it's consistent. I have supported Ken Christesen every time because he has earned it invariably. San Juan County would be well served by Ken Christesen’s leadership.

I have known Ken Christensen for over thirty years as a friend, colleague and as my supervisor. When I
was hired as a Deputy with San Juan County Sheriff’s Office he came to my previous job and
congratulate me on getting hired. This small act impressed me since he was the only one who took the
time to do that. Throughout my career he supervised me in my various assignments and eventually as
my Sheriff.
I have observed Ken try to treat people as he would want to be treated. When I was a patrol Sergeant
for the Sheriff’s Office I remember him coming to graveyard briefings to talk to the deputies. I had never
observed this with our previous Sheriff’s since it is late at night. This wasn’t to see if they were working
but to see how they were doing. In my opinion this is a sign of a true leader to have genuine concern for
the welfare of his people.
I feel that of all the candidates running for Sheriff at this time he has the greatest depth of experience to
lead the Sheriff’s Office. He has a deep understanding of time proven law enforcement practice.
However, he understands the constitution and the importance of enforcing the law within those
boundaries. He recognizes the individual rights of the citizens of this county and cares about their safety.
During his previous time as sheriff I personally witness his concern for community involvement. He was
committed organizing different programs creating community involvement in the Sheriff’s Office. Under
his leadership he strengthened the Sheriff’s reserve program, Neighborhood Watch and Shop with A
cop. He formed GRIT which is a woman safety class that is still taught to this day. He has a deep
commitment to community and encourages citizens involvement.
He is knowledgeable of local and state government. While serving as Sheriff he was over the New
Mexico Sheriff’s Association. During that time, he was asked to speak on major news networks to
discuss national issues that affect our state and county.
I have known Ken as a fair and compassionate leader with strong convictions. He is a man of integrity
with a strong moral compass that guides his decision making. For this reason, I put my full endorsement
for Ken Christesen as the next Sheriff of San Juan County.

To the citizens of San Juan County, Although I no longer live or work in San Juan County, this place still matters deeply to me. My parents still live there own a business there. My in-laws are there, and many the people I love and care about are still there, as are many of the staff and friends I worked alongside during some of the most meaningful years of my career. Because of that, I am still deeply invested in the future of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
That is why my family and I are proud to publicly support Ken Christesen for Sheriff. Ken hired me in early 2010 as the first civilian Public Information Officer for the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. That opportunity changed my life. He believed in me, trusted me, and gave me room to grow in a role that helped shape the rest of my career in law enforcement communications. He me to become a Reserve Deputy and personally swore me in in 2017.
His leadership had a lasting impact on life, and I would not be where I am today without the foundation he helped build. Today, I serve the Public Information Officer for Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, the largest sheriff’s office in New Mexico, in the state’s largest county. After more than a decade working in law enforcement communications, I know how critical leadership is in this profession, especially in’s climate. Agencies need leaders who understand public trust, support their employees, value accountability and never lose sight of the fundamentals of policing. Ken absolutely gets that.
I had the privilege of working alongside him during some of the hardest moments an agency can face, including the Aztec School shooting, deputy-involved shootings, high-profile homicide cases, many other critical incidents where calm, steady leadership was essential. Ken never lost sight of his responsibility do the right thing. He led with compassion, integrity, and genuine care for both his people and the community.What always stood out to me most was the way he trusted and empowered those who worked for him. He gave people the tools and support they needed to do their jobs well without adding unnecessary pressure to an already difficult profession.
He created a culture where felt respected, valued, and proud to serve. That kind of leadership stays with people, and there is a reason so many who worked under him still talk about those years with pride. Some call Ken old school. I call him in the fundamentals that matter most. He understands policing, leadership, and people. He knows how to build relationships, how to work with other agencies across the state, and how to lead with both strength and humility. In a filled with scrutiny and pressure, that kind of steady leadership not outdated; it is exactly what is needed.
My husband, now an Albuquerque Police Officer, also served under Ken’s leadership during his time as a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and he supports him as well. That respect is shared by many, and it was earned. I am not writing this to diminish anyone running. I know many of them, and I respect their service. I am writing this because I know who Ken Christesen is as a leader. I saw it up close. He inspired people to work hard, take pride in the, and be part of something excellent.
He shaped my career, and I believe he is the best person to lead the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. San Juan County will be stronger with Ken Christesen leading the Sheriff’s Office once again.

Dear Sir or Madam, My name is Malin Parker, and I am the retired Sheriff of Roosevelt County, New Mexico. I have served my county and this state for the last 27 years with CYFD, ategration program for juvenile offenders who were incarcerated for crimes, including major offenses.
I served as a patrolman and then as Chief of for the town of Elida, NM, and as Deputy Sheriff for Roosevelt, NM. While serving as Deputy Sheriff, I was assigned to Region Five Narcotic Task Force and commissioned as a Federal Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration. I was later to the Major Crimes (Homicide) Unit for the Ninth District Attorney’s office and subsequently appointed as Chief for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office. In 2014, I ran for the Office of for Roosevelt County and was elected to my first term.
In 2018 I was successfully voted in for my second and final term as Sheriff of Roosevelt County. While serving as Sheriff, I was elected to the NM Association of Counties Board of Directors and served for two years After retiring from law enforcement, I was elected to the board of Commission District 2 (where I currently serve) for Roosevelt County, NM. I share my experience to help you understand how many people I have met in this profession and how long I have been involved.
Compared to Ken, I am a rookie! I have met thousands of people in my various positions, and few have stood out like Ken Christensen. In my service, I have looked up to only a few, and Ken is one of them. When met Ken in 2007, I immediately noted how he was—always friendly, always ready with a joke or something kind to say. I also noted in my first with Ken, as President of the NM Sher Association, how fiercely serious he was about addressing state's crime problems and rallying our sheriffs together!
Ken stood to me as a true leader when he consistently bad legislation in Santa Fe and rallied most of the sher in the state to stand with him. Through his actions, New Mexico became a standout example in the nation’s media for other sheriff's offices around the United States to follow. I have also had the opportunity to observe Ken with his employees. In my observations, I noted that Ken is well-respected by his sub and gives the same amount of respect in return.
I believe you are all aware that Ken has a notable reputation for identifying future leaders for your county through his previous actions. In many of my conversations with Ken, we discussed various problems our respective agencies faced. Ken always provided me solid advice, and I successfully employed many of the tactics he discussed in my own agency. I am sure all know people who, for lack of a better term, tend to get “a big head” and don’t answer their phones or return calls. I have never known Ken to do this.
Anytime I have ever called Ken, he has answered or returned my call promptly. I do not give endorsements lightly, but endorsing Ken Christensen for San Juan County Sheriff is a pleasure for me. I have multiple family members residing in San Juan County, it would bring me comfort to know that I have a trusted man protecting them Ken Christensen is honest, trustworthy, proven, and his integrity is unquestionable.

If you have driven past my business on the corner of La plata Hwy and Pinion Hills, you might have noticed that several candidates for Sheriff have their sign on my fence. Everyone keeps asking me who I like and who I am pulling for.
Honestly, I like everyone who is running. We really can’t go wrong no matter who wins.
I have had great conversations with every candidate and they are on the same page with different things that need to happen in the Sheriff’s Department. When it comes time to choose someone, I am going with Ken Christesen for Sheriff. I have known Ken since I was a kid.
I know the love and dedication he put in to being a deputy, and I had seen how great of a job he did last time.
One of his strongest attributes is recruiting. We need that now more than ever. Ken is also a man of his word. When he came to my office to have a conversation and told me why he was running, I knew it came from the heart.

During that time, Sheriff Christesen served as my lieutenant over Patrol, Narcotics, and Detectives. I was honored to support him in his previous two elections and had the opportunity to witness firsthand the remarkable he led during those terms.
When Sheriff Christesen first took office, he transformed the Sheriff’s from a reactive agency into a proactive, focused law enforcement organization committed to targeting repeat offenders and addressing crime at its roots. Through strong leadership and sound, traditional police work combined with innovative strategies, he raised the standard of service for our community. One of his key initiatives was the creation of the S.E.T. Team (Special Enforcement Team), a street-level unit specifically designed to combat recidivism, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, crimes against children, and other serious offenses threatening our.
While being firm and unwavering in his approach to crime, Sheriff Christesen also demonstrated a deep commitment to community engagement. He revitalized and strengthened several community-based programs, most notably the Reserve Deputy Program. When Ken took office, the program lacked structure and formal training standards. Under his direction, a comprehensive six-week training academy implemented, along with clear policies and accountability measures. As result, the program grew into a highly effective force of nearly forty dedicated reserve deputies by the end of his term.
Among his many accomplishments, one stands out as particularly significant. Following the tragic Aztec High School shooting in December 2017, Sheriff Christesen took immediate and action. He implemented an aggressive and comprehensive School Resource Officer program that included four deputies, along with supervisory support from a part-time sergeant and lieutenant. This initiative emphasized safety, staff training, mental health awareness, and threat assessment protocols.
The program earned strong support from both the community and school personnel and has played a vital in enhancing the safety of our children. Sheriff Christesen’s leadership, integrity, and proven record give me complete in the continued safety and security of San Juan County and my own family. I strongly encourage you to join me in supporting his re-election.

During that time, I have served under multiple sheriffs, and I can confidently say that Retired Sheriff Christesen, without question, the most qualified individual for the position. Over the course of my thirteen years in the Detective Division, I have encountered the harsh realities of criminal on numerous occasions. Ken has already done his time to protect and serve the citizens of San Juan County, yet he knows there is still much to be done and he has the heart to do it. He could have easily just spent his life in retirement, but he has chosen to be a servant once again. He is coming back for the right reason, to make sure that what is right is done. He has always been there when needed in the past and he will due so as the Sheriff of San Juan County again. Ken knows more about our Constitutional Rights than most people and he is an avid supporter of those rights that were bestowed upon us by God. He has always fought hard to protects those rights. He is a strong fighter against Catch and Release because he knows the harm it does to our community.
He has a solid track record for defending our 2ndAmendment Rights to Keep and Bear Arms.
He knows it is a right and not a suggestion. He is willing to go head to head against those in Santa Fe that would try to downgrade this right and ultimately try and take it away from us. He has, and will continue, to be in the lead going to Santa Fe to fight for our rights. He knows and understands Red Flag Laws and the way that politicians have tried to use it to take our Constitutionally protected Due Process Rights away from us. He has fought against these blatant infringements of our rights and is the person we need moving forward to prevent these rights from being taken away from us. I have known most of the candidates that are running for Sheriff for quite some time. Ken is the only one I can recall ever mentioning God or our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ken respects our Constitutionally protected right to religious worship.
He is a God fearing and righteous leader that respects the rights of all. I feel he has God in his heart and he seeks guidance from Him in his leadership and all things. Ken has a proven track record of making good decisions even when opposition gets tough. As things have been progressing and getting increasingly difficult in the world, this is exactly what we need. We have to have a leader in the Sheriffs Department that will take charge as those future tough times come around. Agendas that politicians have put in place are coming soon, and we need the leadership of Ken Christesen to navigate through those times. With the way this world has been going, every election has been becoming more and more important, and this years Sheriff Election is no different. I had every intension of running for Sheriff this year for the same reasons Ken is running.

Having seen a few posts of support for candidates and fielded questions from friends about my thoughts on the matter, I want to let others know that I support a re-election of Ken Christesen for Sheriff.
I am recently retired as a Captain from the Sheriff’s Office after 20 years and I have worked along side each of the candidates and know them all quite well. This will likely be the only time in my life in which I not only know the candidates, but the kind of person that they are. I have seen their strengths and weaknesses; as individuals we all have them and it’s important for us to accept them. None of the candidates are bad men and I believe each of them want to do well in the job. I was fortunate to spend 16 years working under two great leaders.
The current Sheriff Shane Ferrari in his two terms and Ken Christesen in two terms before. Both are outstanding men who have always had the community at the center of their service. I have seen firsthand the amount of dedication that Ken puts into his work. When I was early in my career and working on patrol, it was no surprise to walk into the substation in the middle of the night and find, Ken Christesen, waiting to visit. It wasn’t that he was looking to discipline or keep an eye on anyone. He was there because he cared for the deputies as much as he cared for the community. He would get to know those who worked for him, not just oversee their work. He’d talk to deputies about family and hobbies just much as he talked of the job. That made him great at his job. He would get to know those in his agency and know how best to lead when he knew those he was leading.
Ken is very committed to coaching and guiding others in their careers. He was not leading for self interest. He knew the best way for an agency to grow strong was to increase the abilities of everyone. During his long career in law enforcement Ken was always willing to help those around him. He was a Lieutenant when I joined the Sheriff’s office and I did not work in any of his divisions before his first term as Sheriff. Despite this, he spoke with me many times through the years offering advice. It was always a wealth of knowledge when he would grab a deputy walking by his office and pull them in for no other reason than just to chat.
I always tried to learn from those around me and I took many things from the leaders I have had over the years and they helped shaped me throughout my career and in life. Ken is one of the leaders I was fortunate enough to work for and learned a great deal from him. Outside of the Sheriff’s personnel, Ken is a man for the people. He has been an outspoken advocate in the community and is never afraid to speak his mind on what is right. He does the right thing for the right reasons and has strong character. He was a strong representative inside and outside of San Juan County and would advocate for our community throughout the state. He works well with outside agencies and has sat on numerous boards, organizations and committees.
Despite the toll it takes on his time he is committed to making San Juan County a better place. Had I not retired, Ken Christesen is the man I would want to work for as our next Sheriff. Now retired, Ken is who I believe will still do the best job for me to keep watch over our community.

He is a man who actually listens to his employees and is sinserely concerned for them and his community. I believe we need a leader who will go to his office and pray. I have had the unique opportunity to work alongside each of the candidates in this race. I respect their service and their commitment to our community. As someone who dedicated 21 years to public service in San Juan County, who continues serving our community as a small business owner, and as a Hispanic female with a deep-rooted family history in Blanco, New Mexico, I feel it is my duty to help educate our voters by sharing why I am proud to endorse Ken Christesen for San Juan County Sheriff. Throughout my career—from the courts to probation and parole, to investigations, patrol, and leadership within the Sheriff’s Office—I have seen firsthand what effective law enforcement leadership requires. Ken embodies these qualities. This balance is not always easy in law enforcement. But I have witnessed Ken manage it with grace many times, instilling in his deputies the importance of always doing the right thing. As a former Director of the San Juan County Criminal Justice Training Authority (SJCCJTA), I understand that developing the qualities required to achieve that delicate balance between enforcement, compassion, and accountability begins at the academy level. The SJCCJTA serves as the police academy for San Juan County deputies and for Aztec, Bloomfield, and Farmington police officers, as well as New Mexico Game & Fish officers, State Park Rangers, and other law enforcement professionals who serve our community.
It is there that officers first learn how to walk that balance. The San Juan County Sheriff serves as a member of the SJCCJTA board, and Ken always made it a priority to ensure all law enforcement officers in San Juan County received the best and most up-to-date training. He has consistently demonstrated a commitment to reinforcing these principles both in training and in the field.Ken’s commitment to training does not end with those on the front lines. His passion extends into partnering with the community to ensure citizens are informed, prepared, and empowered. I was honored to serve as the informal director of the now “Girls with Grit” program for seven years prior to my retirement.
Through that experience, I saw firsthand how educating community members strengthens the overall health of our community and builds trust between law enforcement and the people they serve. It is because of Ken’s support and encouragement of community-based safety education that I was inspired to continue serving our community, in retirement, as a small business owner providing emergency response and safety training to our citizens.I have worked with all of the candidates and value their contributions. My name is Mike Sindelar, and I have been a deputy sheriff for 52 years, starting in 1973. I am currently a detective serving at the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office where I started in 2001. In the years I have served I have never made a public endorsement for any candidate running for public office.
In my career as a deputy sheriff I have served under eight sheriffs, three in California and five here in New Mexico. Ken Christesen stands above them all, and it is not even close.I met Ken twenty-five years ago when he was a Sheriff’s Lieutenant. As I came to know him, I was impressed with his integrity, which I was able to observe firsthand in a myriad of circumstances and situations.
I soon found that with Ken his word was his Bond and his willingness to listen to concerns of both deputies and citizens was based on his sincere desire to serve. Ken is the definition of the word “leader”.After his election as Sheriff of San Juan County, he began addressing the crime issues facing the County. He formed the S.E.T. unit to identify and go after the worst of the worst criminals that were habitual offenders.
He designated a D.U.I. unit to concentrate on making our roads safer through dedicated efforts to arrest drunk drivers. He reinvigorated the reserve Deputy program to multiply our resources to deliver law enforcement service to our citizens.Ken’s leadership qualities caused him to be elected by his fellow Sheriffs to become Chairman of the New Mexico Sheriffs Association. For three consecutive terms.
As such, he mentored newly elected Sheriffs and instilled within them a commitment to the Constitution. He made this organization a formidable voice for the People and the Sheriffs prevented numerous bills introduced in Santa Fe from being passed that would have eroded the rights of our citizens.When President Obama threatened to issue illegal and un-Constitutional orders restricting our Second Amendment rights, Ken led his fellow Sheriffs, standing in the Roundhouse, and made the first nationwide announcement of any group of Sheriffs stating they would not enforce these orders.
That is leadership.Ken has been called “The Coffee Shop Sheriff’ and he wears that title with honor. Places like coffee shops are where everyday people meet to discuss issues that affect them and their families directly. Ken is where our citizens are and he is a hands-on Sheriff.
His openness to the public as well as to all who work at the Sheriff’s Office creates an atmosphere of trust and a desire to do the absolute best for those we serve. He is a results-oriented Sheriff.Ken has a proven track record of excellence as Sheriff of San Juan County, and I am honored to give him my full vote of confidence.
